hand. Arts and crafts is usually a hobby. Some crafts(art skills) have been practised for centuries,others are more recent inventions. William Morris,John Ruskin and others promoted an"arts and crafts" movement in late 19th century. Both children and adults enjoy arts and crafts. Children in schools may learn skills such as wood working,wood carving,sewing or making things with all sorts of material. Many community centres and schools have evening or day classes and workshops where one can learn arts and craft skills.
-Now there are five major types of arts and crafting:
- Craft involving paper or canvas.
- Crafts involving plants.
- Crafts involving wood,metal or clay.
- Crafts involving textiles.
- Other crafts such as: Bead work ,Doll making,Glass blowing,Egg decorating,and many more.
1-CALLIGRAPHY:
Calligraphy is a visual art related to writing. It is the design and execution of lettering with a broad tip instrument,brush,or other writing instruments.A contemporary calligraphic practice can be defined as,"the art of giving form to signs in an expressive,harmonious, and skillful manner"
Islamic calligraphy is the artistic practice of handwriting and calligraphy,based upon the alphabet in the lands sharing a common Islamic cultural heritage. It includes Arabic,Ottoman,Persian,Pakistan and Indian calligraphy and Indian calligraphy. Islamic calligraphy developed from two major styles:KUFIC and NASKH.
In East Asian countries such as China,Japan,Vietnam,and ideographs made on the surfaces of jades and oracle bones.In India and Pakistan,however,calligraphy first appeared as a way to 'print' holy texts(similarly to its European origins).You can use calligraphy to make an impression.Hardly anyone can fail to notice a beautiful envelope and meticulous writing.This makes calligraphy a great medium by which to help yourself stand out from other candidates for a job or an internship.
2-PAPER QUILLING:
Like many forms of crafts,paper quilling can trace its origins back hundreds of years to at least the 15th century. It is believed to have been created by French and Italian nuns and used to decorate religious objects in an effort to save money.It is the art of cutting paper into long thin strips,rolling and pinching the pieces into the different shapes,and then gluing the shapes together to form decorative art.Paper quilling projects can be used to decorate cards,boxes,gift bags,picture frames,or even be made into 3D stand-alone pieces.

As an art quilling used to be extremely popular in 1970's and 80's,gradually faded in between ,and has made a brilliant comeback in the recent years.Paper quilling is not a very difficult skill to master.you can get a lot done just with a few simple tools.The hobby is also a great way to adorn cards,invitations,and jewelry boxes.The rise in popularity is also attributed to the fact that this craft can be easy to learn for both kids and adults.

As long as you have a creative spirit and good hand-eye coordination,paper quilling will be very enjoyable for you!
3-SKETCHING:
Sketch,traditionally a rough drawing or painting in which an artist notes down his preliminary ideas for a work that will eventually be realized with greater precision and details.Sketching helps develop a number of different areas of your brain.

You develop your ability to focus and pay attention, a skill that can be very useful throughout your life and career. It also develops hand-eye coordination so that everyday tasks can become easier for you.
4-CANVAS PAINTING:
The definition of the canvas is a surface you paint on that is often made from tightly stretched unbleached cloth or a closely woven fabric that is often used to make boat sail,purses and upholstery.An example of a canvas is a surface on which you do an oil painting.
