NEPOTISM

The most viral topic these days is"NEPOTISM". Today we'll have a quick look on it,why people are so concerned with it and why it is so on peak now.ok, so we'll have a look on what nepotism actually is(origin),The term comes from the italian word nepotismo, which is based on Latin root nepos meaning nephew.
Now if we talk about simply on this particular word or you can say this fast growing disease in our society then; we can say NEPOTISM is based on favoritism granted to relatives in various fields, including business, politics, entertainment, sports, religion and other activities. The term is originated with the assignment of nephews to important positions by Catholic popes and bishops. Nepotism has been criticized by the ancient times by several philosophers, including Aristotle,Valluvar and confucius. For instance, the ancient Indian philosopher Valluvar condemned nepotism as both evil and unwise.
EXAMPLES:
-Nepotism is a special treatment giving to relatives, especially in workplace. An example of it is
the CEO of a company giving his underqualified nephew or niece a high paying job.
-Nepotism even exits in schools."kids are experiencing this right now,at this very second"

Take the example of school plays and stage shows. The characters of the play read out as those of the movie.Starring in lead roles:ABC daughter/son of a famous Actor/Actress
while, all the other characters who played various roles can trace their lineage to a person of power and influence. So what are the other children to understand?I'm not good enough? No matter what I do,I will never be selected by the same teachers who I've been asked to trust blindly by my parents?
TYPES OF PARTIALITY:
Nepotism refers to partiality to family whereas cronyism refers to partiality to an associate or friend. Favoritism, the broadest of the terms, refers to partiality based upon being part of a favored group, rather than job performance.
"Cronyism" is derogatorily used to imply buying and selling favors, such as:votes in legislative bodies,as doing favors to organizations, giving desirable ambassadorships to exotic places, etc
"Favoritism" effects has been researched by many psychologists and linked to many theories related to group conflict and prejudice. The phenomenon is primarily viewed from a social psychology standpoint.Studies have shown that in-group favoritism arises as a result of formation of cultural groups.
Now next question that rises here is;IS NEPOTISM GOOD OR BAD?
The studies shows that nepotism is not always bad but it may have many many worst results.while it is a controversial topic in business ethics,it is not inherently unethical to employ family members but nepotism if done in a government office can come under administrative law as the government is the only one bound by it.It comes under bias by relation/blood which ever it may be.Nepotism ,would be civil you can be sued for not hiring someone based on Nepotism, but the criminal system would not be involved.Nepotism is a decidedly negative word. There are few ,if any, laws that specifically prohibit discrimination. It's where the two overlap that there may be grounds for an employee to file a lawsuit.
CAUSES OF NEPOTISM:
The most simple cause is that people tend to stick with people they know as they have a better sight on what they can expect.
Another reason is that in the past, states and kings were nothing more than protection rackets. The family was the source of employment and social care in case of illness and old age. Hence,it was normal that the family would always stick together and cover each other. In fact,it is also why marriages are arranged or at least carefully monitored:all the family members were stakeholders and thus had a valid saying in who to invite into that holy circle and you know what OLD HABITS DIE SLOWLY:(
IS IT A CRIME?
Nepotism is prefering someone you know as a family or friend in a job scenario or something similar. This nepotism begins from the time you or anyone is born.Let's take a contrived example. You have a child and so does your sibling or cousin. But you will always prefer your kid over theirs if put in a situation. It would be a tough one though.
Similarly, when you are seeking a job you always approach your closed ones who could refer you somewhere and even help you further in the interview. While the other candidates won't get the same benefit from the person that is referring you.Or your teacher takes you as a favorite student and is always lenient while giving you remarks but you never complaint about it.
This favoritism is a human tendency and would take a saint to put all these sophistication aside. Not everyone is a saint. So, when you didn't complain about all the above, why you hate nepotism. Perhaps because of it you aren't getting a chance somewhere or you saw someone loosing to someone due to nepotism. This a part of life and although there are certain rules and regulation for it in certain areas but not very much effective. So, take it as an add on to your struggle and fight it with hard work because it ain't going anywhere.
